Mis-sold cars

About the claim

Every year, roughly 1 million ex-rental and ex-fleet vehicles are sold into the second-hand car market, often through manufacturers’ Approved Used schemes. Harcus Parker acts for motorists who unknowingly bought these vehicles.

In 2010 the Office of Fair Trading made clear that dealers should tell buyers about the history of their cars and that by failing to do so they may breach consumer protection regulations. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy reiterated this guidance in 2020. Unfortunately, it is very often impossible to know, before buying a car, whether it has been previously used as a taxi, fleet or hire car.
